Correlated X-ray and Optical Variability in V404 Cyg in Quiescence

چکیده
We report simultaneous X-ray and optical observations of V404 Cyg in quiescence. The X-ray flux varied dramatically by a factor of & 20 during a 60 ks observation. X-ray variations were well correlated with those in Hα, although the latter include an approximately constant component as well. Correlations can also be seen with the optical continuum, although these are less clear. We see no large lag between X-ray and optical line variations; this implies they are causally connected on short timescales. As in previous observations, Hα flares exhibit a double-peaked profile suggesting emission distributed across the accretion disk. The peak separation is consistent with material extending outwards to at least the circularization radius. The prompt response in the entire Hα line confirms that the variability is powered by X-ray (and/or EUV) irradiation. The Spectrum of the Black Hole X-ray Nova V404 Cygni in Quiescence as Measured by Xmm-newton
We present XMM-Newton observations of the black hole X-ray nova V404 Cyg in quiescence. Its quiescent spectrum can be best fitted by a simple power-law with slope Γ ∼ 2. The spectra are consistent with that expected for the advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF). V404 Cyg was roughly equal in luminosity compared to the previous observation of Chandra. We see variability of a factor of 4 duri...
متن کاملThe Quiescent Spectral Energy Distribution of V404 Cyg
We present a multiwavelength study of the black hole X-ray binary V404 Cyg in quiescence, focusing upon the spectral energy distribution (SED). Radio, optical, UV, and X-ray coverage is simultaneous. We supplement the SED with additional non-simultaneous data in the optical through infrared where necessary. The compiled SED is the most complete available for this, the X-ray and radio brightest ...
متن کاملRevisiting the radio/X-ray flux correlation in the black hole V404 Cyg: from outburst to quiescence
We report results of Chandra X-ray and VLA radio observations of the Galactic accreting black hole V404 Cyg (GS 2023+338) in its quiescent state. V404 Cyg is detected at its faintest level of radio and X-ray emission with a 0.5–10 keV unabsorbed luminosity of 8.3 × 10 (d/3.5 kpc) erg s. The X-ray spectrum fit with an absorbed power-law model yields a photon index of 2.17 ± 0.13. Contrary to pre...
متن کاملAdvection-Dominated Accretion Model of the Black Hole V404 Cyg in Quiescence
We have analyzed archival ASCA data on the soft X-ray transient source V404 Cyg in quiescence. We find that in the energy range 0.7 to 8.5 keV the spectrum is a hard power-law with a photon spectral index between 1.8 and 2.6 (90% confidence limits). We present a model of V404 Cyg in which the accretion flow has two components: (1) an outer thin disk with a small annular extent, and (2) a large ...
متن کاملThe X-ray Spectra of Black Hole X-ray Novae in Quiescence as Measured by Chandra
We present Chandra observations of black hole X-ray novae V404 Cyg, A0620–00, GRO J1655–40 and XTE J1550–564 in quiescence. Their quiescent spectra can be well fitted by a power-law model with number slope α∼ 2. While a coronal (Raymond-Smith) model is also a statistically acceptable representation of the spectra, the best fit temperatures of these models is ∼ 5 times higher than that seen in a...
